FERNLEY  ATTEMPTED  MURDER

Yerington, Nevada – On the evening of July 1, 2015 Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Mountain Rose Drive in Fernley, NV for a gunshot report. Upon arrival deputies discovered Michael Nascimento with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Nascimentio was later transported to Renown Emergency Center where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound. As of 7:26 a.m. this morning, Nascimento was listed in critical but stable condition.

During the investigation, deputies learned that a verbal and physical altercation had taken place between Nascimento and Charles A. Paulsen (a.k.a., Pops). During the altercation Paulsen fired a single shot at Nascimento striking him in the abdominal area. Subsequently, Paulsen was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center in Yerington.           He has been charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, and provoking assault. His bail is set at $131, 140.

Based upon further investigation, Paulsen’s girlfriend, Brandi M. West­ Castillo, was also arrested for aiding a felon and attempting to conceal (destroy) evidence. She was booked into the detention center in Yerington for aiding a felony.  Her bail is set at $10,000.
